After multiple storms in recent months that have caused extended power outages in the City of Overland, Mayor Purzner has ordered the removal of all trees within the city. The Public Works department has been given a deadline of March 14 to submit a plan for their removal.
Many citizens registered complaints at a recent city council meeting. The most common complaint was the removal of trees regardless of their locaiton near power lines. "It's crazy" stated Overland resident Mitch Hayes. "I have trees in my backyard and the power lines are out front! There is no need for their removal."
The mayor responded that the city "did not have the resources to pick and choose which trees could stay".
The next day, a press conference was held by the Sierra Club to call for an investigation into the matter. The mayor attended and stated that "I am doing what is best for the citizens of Overland. They will all come crawling back to me and the community center at the next power outage if we didn't do that. Donna Dill and I have better things to do with our time than to feed these non-grateful residents cold pizza and stale hamburgers."
